Your lawn is among the most important parts of your landscaping and home. A lawn that is well taken care of and maintained not only looks better, but is often easier to maintain and should you need to sell your home, can typically allow a higher price point. To help in the movement of ‘going green’, here are a few Landscaping Tips for helping the environment, and your lawn.
1) Raking Your Lawn. Not only can a rake rid your lawn of excess fallen leaves, twigs, or other debris, but a good rake will help with what is called, thatch, the layer of dead turf between the green vegetation and the soil. A layer of thatch about a half-inch or more can have adverse effects on the health of your lawn.
2) Grass Health. A neutral pH balance is best for proper grass growth. If your landscape has many moss plants, the pH can be more on the acidic side. Therefore, utilizing a lawn spreader with lime can help neutralize the pH balance back to normal. Be sure to use a test kit for measuring the pH of your soil and determine the proper amount of lime that is recommended.
3) A Fertile Landscape: Using an organic compost or mulch will help promote proper growth of your lawn.
