Garden

Trying to get those perfect looking garden edges? It’s easy with Rhine Landscaping at your side.

Few things are more satisfying (and more elusive) than the perfect garden edges. If you are looking to set your garden’s neat edges apart from every other neighbor on the cul-de-sac, here are our simple steps to the perfect garden edges.

Gather Your Supplies

To get perfect garden edges, you should gather together several long hoses, spray paint, a spray paint can holder, a partner to help with holding and adjusting, and an edging tool. The difference between a professionally-edged garden bed and an amateur one almost always lies in the level of planning and patience.

Setting a Straight Line

A straight line is the easiest edge to place in your garden. Use a string line between your two points and carefully mark along the line with spray paint. Do you want to add a curve that follows the straight line? You’ll need to use a tangent point so that the straight line just meets the edge of the curved one. This type of garden bed edge is best set using a gardening hose thanks to its natural curve. Place your hose in an arch and then use spray paint to trace the middle area.

Additional Tips

When getting your perfect garden edges remember:

  • Always wait until everything has been outlined in spray paint to start solidifying your plan. You might not realize problems with the visual flow until you’ve already done all of your hard work otherwise.
  • Stay consistent with how you cut your garden bed edges. While some landscaping professionals prefer 90 degrees and others prefer 45, it won’t make a visual difference in your yard unless you are not consistent.
  • Use the right tools for the job. If you don’t have any of the items mentioned above, it’s a great idea to invest in them if you are planning on edging your garden beds in the future. Without the right supplies, including an edging tool instead of a spade, it will be much more time-consuming and messy.
  • Enjoy your results!
