An Ellicott City homeowner was having continuous water issues with a basement window, caused by the recent heavy rains. They contacted us to fix the wall, to which we not only repaired, but we took preventive measures to ensure nothing happens again. Here’s a look at what we did:
After removing the window frame, we drilled and pinned rebar into the foundation for strength.
8″ cinder blocks with rebar were installed in the cells, which were then filled with concrete for stability, followed by a coat of Portland mortar for both sides of the new cinder blocks.
The outside wall was then coated a little above the soil level with basement waterproof tar. The tar was covered with heavy mill rubber liner.
The basement French drain was extended upwards and we placed sediment fabric between the gravel in the French drain and the soil we used to back-fill.
With the soil compacted correctly, any future water will flow away from the home.
Lastly, we added a coat of screened topsoil, fescue seeds, starter fertilizer, and clean wheat straw.
